Introduction to blocked nose-

Nose has an important function that is to purify the inhaled air. The inhaled air always passes through the mucous membrane. The mucous membrane is the inner surface of the nose. It secretes a type of liquid that is known as mucus which keeps the nasal moist. Due to various reasons, the nasal membrane swells that can affect the smooth passage of air passage. This condition is known as a blocked nose or nasal congestion

Causes of the blocked nose-

Rhinitis- It is inflammation of the nasal cavity lining. It is also known as a runny nose. It can be infectious. It also can be allergic or non-allergic. Nasal itch, excess sneezing, postnasal drainage, and watering eyes are some of the problems that are faced by an individual having rhinitis. According to many studies, it is shown that the prevalence of allergic rhinitis is between 24 and 28%, accounting for approximately 3% of all physician visits.

Common Cold- The common cold is a self-limited infectious disease that can be caused by a number of different types of viruses. The common cold is also referred as a viral upper respiratory tract infection. There are more than 200 types of viruses that cause the common cold. Some of them are- adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, parainfluenza virus, and coronavirus. It occurs more prominently during winter, spring, and fall.

Sinus Infections (Sinusitis)- It is a sinus infection that occurs when your nasal cavities become infected, swollen, and inflamed.
