Few measures prescribed by walk in clinic doctor for the treatment of minor burns

Diagnosing the degree of burn is very important before you start on with the healing process. In case of minor burns, which do not require immediate medical attention or help, specific steps are needed to be followed in order to provide aid to the burn.

Following are few steps prescribed by walk in clinic doctor in NYC that you must follow, if you face minor burns:
  • The burn continues to affect the area till the time a cold compression is not applied. Therefore, apply ice on the burnt skin. This will help reduce the burning and prevent further damage to skin.
  • If in case, damage caused by burn is big then you must call for emergency medical care. In addition, you must not apply any cream because it would hinder the process of medical help (specialist would not be able to assess the damage).
  • Every day you must check the burn because there is an increased chance of infection to occur. This can be in form of pain, redness, swelling, pus, fever, red streaks spreading from the burn area or swollen lymph nodes. In such case, you must seek for medical attention from urgent care clinic because germs hinder the process of healing.
  • Never break blisters because doing so can cause infection. For protection from infection at times when blisters gets broken, you must apply non-sticky dressing.
  • Make sure to get the dressing changed regularly.
  • If dressing is wet, make sure to get it changed as it can cause infection.
  • Itchiness is common to occur, so do not scratch. Especially you should keep your dirty hands away from burns because dirt or dust causes infection. At times when itchiness is there, apply moisturizing cream or aloe Vera. This will help moisten the area, reduce dryness and eventually reduce itchiness.
  • There are times when electrical burns are caused. In those cases, you must seek for medical help rather than taking medical precautions at home.
  • Burns are sensitive to sunlight. Therefore, you must avoid going out and once the burn is healed then you must apply sunscreen on the affected area.
  • In case, if burns are sunburn then special medical care should be taken for it as it require different medical attention.
  • Minor burns take time to heal. At least 3 to 6 days are taken for proper healing. Therefore, you must keep patience and allow burn to heal.
