When suffering from infection in gastrointestinal tract, visit a walk-in-clinic!

Vomiting is a major symptom of infection in gastrointestinal tract. Also known as emesis, it is an illness or disease that makes food to get expelled from the stomach. Things if get worsen it can lead to dehydration.

Initially person would feel dry or cracked lips, dry mouth, sunken eyes, and even rapid breathing. Besides this, there are few other symptoms like weakness, dizziness, retching, chills and fever, loss of appetite, shoulder pain, diarrhea, stomach pain and lightheadedness, which might cause after vomiting.

However, in some situations vomiting can also be life threatening. Symptoms in context to it are as follows: chest pain, severe stomach pain, blood in vomiting, yellow skin and eyes, fainting spells or dizziness, high fever, disorientation and rapid pulse etc.

Walk in clinic doctors describe few reasons in context to cause of vomiting, which are discussed below-

  • Gastritis: It is a bacterial toxin that causes food poisoning, which is caused because of Salmonella, Campylobacter, Shigella, E. coli, Listeria, or Botulism bacteria.
  • Injury: At times of injury in head, pressure inside the skull causes vomiting. Pressure is caused because of intricate illness like tumors, infections and an imbalance of electrolytes and water in the blood.
  • Headaches: Migraine and headache is a major cause of vomiting.
  • Alcohol: Excess consumption increases the toxins in the blood called acetaldehyde, which eventually causes vomiting.
Therefore, if your loved one ever suffers from this problem, then here are few tips that will help in restricting the effects of vomiting-
  • Avoid solid food for at least six hours
  • Increase intake of water or liquids like juices
  • If suffering from ailment like cancer and vomiting is coming then take special drugs and medications. But do make sure that should be prescribed by the doctor
  • Take mint tea, peppermint tea, ginger tea, ginger ale, fresh fruit and vegetable juices
  • Drinking water mixed with equal amounts of honey and apple cider vinegar. This is an effective way to avoid vomiting
  • Always sip slowly
  • If dehydration has occurred, consume oral rehydrating solution
  • Start with small meals such as dry crackers, cereals, or toast after consuming liquid
  • Make your dear one sit rather than lying. This helps to lessen the possibility of expulsion of the food via the mouth
  • If vomits happen while lying, turn the patient head to the side so that he or she can easily exit vomit through the mouth
  • If in case situation is worsened then immediately, contact a doctor or specialist.
